GRS Team begins its EuroCup-3 venture on the podium

First ever round of EuroCup-3 took place this weekend. The championship got underway at Spa-Francorchamps Circuit, in Belgium. GRS achieved a sensational start to the season.

New championship, new car, and a new driver in our team. GRS took part on the opening race weekend of the season with young Chinese talent Han Cenyu at the wheel. 16 drivers across 5 teams were part of the first ever EuroCup-3, with several competitive contenders.

Two testing sessions took place on Thursday morning. These helped us to earn several mileage hours before the start of the real action. Unfortunately, the A14 Management driver could not hit the track in Free Practice 1. He, however, finished the second session in the Top 10.

Qualifying sessions were held on Friday. The entire day was conditioned by changing weather conditions, rain, and uncertainty. Our qualifying results were therefore significantly different for Han; he achieved a great fifth place in Qualifying 1, and P13 in Qualifying 2.

Race 1 was also held under mixed conditions. Han was one of the few drivers who opted for wet weather tyres. This decision proved to be the right one, and the Chinese driver did not take long to climb up to second place. Despite the end of the rain and the Safety Car periods which gathered the pack, Han kept his head down and crossed the finish line in an impressive second position. GRS was therefore part of the first ever EuroCup-3 podium. It was also the first podium for the team since 2021.

The second race started off well as Han climbed up a few positions and rounded the Top 10. Race pace was good, but the Chinese driver was involved in some battles and found himself back in P13, where he eventually finished the race.

That brings the first EuroCup-3 meeting in history to an end. We finish the weekend with Han sitting third in the Drivers’ Standings. We are very satisfied with our results and the job done by all team members, who made this possible. EuroCup-3 will be back in three weeks: on May 28-29 at MotorLand Aragón.
