GRS scores points as EuroCup-3 races in Valencia for the first time

Round 7 of EuroCup-3 took place this weekend at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, in Valencia. The team raced at home for the penultimate meeting of the season. Our performance was consistent, showing improvement during the weekend but not managing to achieve the results the team aimed for.

After having raced with GRS a month ago in Jerez, Nikola Tsolov, who made two Pole Positions and finished both races in the podium, was back in the team. Alongside him was Carl Bennett, who was making his series debut after stepping up from Formula 4.

Drivers hit the track for the first time in the Collective Test session that was held on Friday afternoon, which was completed with positive feeling for the team. Free Practice sessions took place on Saturday morning, and they were the final test before the real action began.

In Qualifying 1, track limits management turned out to be the biggest challenge faced by all drivers. Tsolov qualified on P13, with Bennett on the back of the grid. The goal for Race 1 was to make a comeback, and our drivers delivered under changing conditions. Nikola gained places and managed to score points after finishing ninth while Carl managed to have a clean race and brought the car home, learning and improving lap after lap.

The start to our Sunday was equally challenging, Nikola qualified 12th for Race 2 while Bennett finished in P17. The Bulgarian’s race ended in Turn 1 as he was sent to the gravel after being hit by a rival. Carl, on the other hand, had a consistent performance and shown clear signs of improvement. He finished in P12.

This was a round marked by the challenges faced, and the results were not the expected ones. Despite that, the team leaves satisfied with the job done and with Bennett’s progression, who came into the weekend with no previous experience on the series and had a remarkable performance given these conditions. We thank Carl, Nikola, and the whole team for their outstanding efforts.

With this weekend done and dusted, the next round will be the season finale. Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will host, in November 11-12, the end of EuroCup-3’s first ever campaign.
