CERTT season starts off with Rally TT Jaén Mar de Olivos

GRS Team completed his championship debut with good pace and feeling, even despite some trouble during Saturday’s Special Stage left us with no chance to fight at the top.

GRS Team’s presence in Rally-Raid competition is already a reality. The team was present this weekend on the opening round of the Spanish Rally-Raid Championship (CERTT). The season got started with VI Rally Jaén Mar de Olivos, with the headquarters located in Úbeda.

GRS took part in the Andalusian rally with two cars. Entry number 10, with Pau Navarro at the wheel and Fausto Mota as co-driver, was entered in T3 class; while car number 33 has Josep Trinidad as its driver, with Manuel González alongside him in T4 class.

The action started on Saturday morning with a brief Prologue Special Stage. Both drivers had good pace, with Navarro being a reference and one of the top contenders on his category. The young promise from Llagostera confirmed his good feeling after being overall P3 -and P1 in class- on the second Special Stage, which was around 100 kilometres long. Trinidad performed well in SS2 too, being able to reach the overall Top 25.

Our luck turned around in the afternoon, in SS3. Navarro had a fuel tank issue when he was just 3 kilometres away from the finish line. The team in car nº. 10 lost more than half an hour trying to get it fixed, and eventually finished the stage after being assisted by T1 driver Joao Franco, who we thank for his help to our driver. Trinidad also faced trouble at the beginning of the Special Stage and lost his chances to fight but was able to remain on the rally.

We faced Sunday with nothing to lose. Our drivers had the goal to gain experience and mileage on the final Special Stage. Navarro completed the stage in P16 while Trinidad was forced to retire. With these last results, Navarro was 17th on the final overall rally classification, and fifth in T3.

Rally Jaén Mar de Olivos is now done, and GRS has officially made its championship debut. This weekend was useful to get to know the unique challenges and difficulties that are faced on this discipline. We end up satisfied with our pace and what we learnt. Looking forward to coming back stronger in Baja TT Dehesa de Extremadura, set to take place on May 2-4.
