Round 4 of the Formula 4 Spanish Championship season has been held at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia. It was a special event for us as the team’s headquarters are located a few kilometres away from the track. It was, however, a complicated weekend for the team and we did not achieve the expected results.
Just like it happened on the previous round, our drivers shown the progression they have achieved through the season and had pace to be fighting for top positions. This pace, however, could not have been converted into good results.
Time penalties played a big role during the entire weekend, and GRS drivers were no exception. Suleiman Zanfari saw the chequered flag of the first race in fifth position but finished with no points once the penalties were applied. Lorenzo Fluxá scored more points after finishing sixth after a good performance. Both Álex García and Eloy López did not finish in the points even though the former gained places.
The remaining races were held on Sunday. On the second one, the shortest of the weekend, Zanfari was fifth and scored. Fluxá had the same result from the previous race as he finished sixth while López and García rounded the Top 10 again.
García was finally rewarded for his effort on the last race, on which he gained points for the second time this season after securing ninth position. His performance was superb: he gained eight positions from 17th on the grid. Fluxá was seventh and completed a consistent, solid weekend in which he finished all three races in the points. Zanfari and López lost all their chances after being involved in incidents at the early stages of the race.
It was not our best weekend in terms of results and points. The pace to be fighting on top was there, but we have been very unlucky. The progression is visible, and we leave Valencia convinced that our we are working on the right direction. Scenarios like the ones we were through this weekend are the ones that make us grow as a team and learn so we can be stronger on the next round.
